Discipline alone is not enough
Those who believe they can only achieve something with discipline will fail
…I was so frustrated and disappointed with myself.
I kept having new ideas and goals, which I abandoned after 3 months.
If you believe that you can achieve something only with discipline, you will fail.
In the long run, this leads to not believing in yourself, feeling that you can't achieve anything anyway, and giving up on yourself, thus missing new opportunities and avoiding taking risks.
I found a way to stick to the things I set out to do to achieve my goals, and now I'm going to show you how:
Motivation comes and goes; you can influence it, but you have little control over it. When motivation fades, you need discipline. Discipline can be mustered, but it requires a lot of energy and willpower. If this energy or willpower is lacking or needs to be repeatedly summoned over a long period, it becomes impossible to achieve a goal in the long term. So, what is the solution?
You need a system, a system that supports you in achieving your goal.
Here’s what I mean by a system, broken down into four essential points:
Design your environment to support your goal. (Create conducive spaces, arrange materials and objects, remove obstacles, and add what supports you)
Find a community that supports and pushes you.- Surround yourself with people who believe in you and your goals. And find people around you who are also working on their own goals.
Build habits. - Habits are powerful because they automate behavior, reducing the need for constant willpower. Identify small, consistent actions that will move you towards your goal and make them a part of your daily routine.
Establish routines for how and when you do things. - Routines create structure and predictability, making it easier to stay on track. Set specific times for your tasks and stick to them. For example, if you’re working on a project, dedicate a certain hour each day exclusively to it. By building a routine, you train your mind to expect and prepare for these activities, making it easier to start and maintain focus.
